Scattering Characteristics in Heterogeneous Fractured Reservoirs from Waveform Estimation

چکیده
Offset-dependent characteristics of seismic scattering are useful in the interpretation of fractured reservoirs. Synthetic seismograms generated by a 3-D finite difference modeling are used to study elastic wave propagation and scattering in heterogeneous fraetmed reservoirs. We use two models having different background medium properties and different azimuthal AVO responses and build heterogeneous fracture densit)' realizations through stochastic modeling. Gas-saturated fractured reservoirs and waveforms ill fracture normal and strike directions are considered in this paper. The multiple signal classification (MUSIC) frequency estimator is used in waveform estimation to proYid" frequency domain attributes related to seismic wav" scattering by fractmes. Om l"('sults indicate that the strength of the scattered field increases with increasing fracture scatter density and decreasing correlation length of spatial variations of fracture densit,·. It is also a function of the background medium. The strengt h of the scattering field is stronger in model 1 which has smaller property contrasts in the background medium than model 2. The scattering characteristics for both models are different at the top and the base of the fractured reservoir. Our results show that the scattered field is weak at the top of a fractured reservoir. The first order results are dominated by velocit)' anisotropy of a mean crack density field. However, the base of the fractured reservoir corresponds to a strong scattered field on which fracture heterogeneity has a larger effect.

The gas-assisted gravity drainage (GAGD) process is designed and practiced based on gravity drainage idea and uses the advantage of density difference between injected CO2 and reservoir oil. In this work, one of Iran western oilfields was selected as a case study and a sector model was simulated based on its rock and fluid properties. The pressure of CO2 gas injection was close to the MMP of th...

Fractured reservoirs contain about 85 and 90 percent of oil and gas resources respectively in Iran. A comprehensive study and investigation of fractures as the main factor affecting fluid flow or perhaps barrier seems necessary for reservoir development studies. High degrees of heterogeneity and sparseness of data have incapacitated conventional deterministic methods in fracture network modelin...

Large amounts of hydrocarbon reserves are trapped in naturally fractured reservoirs which arechallenging in terms of accurate recovery prediction because of their joint fabric complexity andlithological heterogeneity. Fracture reservoirs contain most of the oil reserves of the Middle East. Such reservoirs are poorly understood and recovery from fractured reservoirs is typically lower than those from conventional reservoirs. Many efforts have been made to enhance the recovery and production potential of these reservoirs. Fractured reservoirs with high matrix porosity and low matrix permeability need a seconda...
متن کاملA Novel Integrated Approach to Modelling of Depletion-Induced Change in Full Permeability Tensor of Naturally Fractured Reservoirs
More than half of all hydrocarbon reservoirs are Naturally Fractured Reservoirs (NFRs), in which production forecasting is a complicated function of fluid flow in a fracture-matrix system. Modelling of fluid flow in NFRs is challenging due to formation heterogeneity and anisotropy. Stress sensitivity and depletion effect on already-complex reservoir permeability add to the sophistication. Horiz...
